Timber product knowledge is an on-line short course that guides you in your research on various timber products that you handle in your own workplace.
The main assessment activity is a set of on-line short-answer questions relating to three different products that your workplace produces, uses or sells. For each product you select, you’ll be asked to take digital photos and describe its:
characteristics, features and specifications
timber species, country of origin and chain of custody certification (if applicable)
properties (including durability, density, etc) and preservative treatment (if treated)
typical end-uses and maintenance over time
The reference sources you’ll consult include the learning materials on this website, plus product brochures, technical publications, industry websites and people who are knowledgeable in these products.
This is a non-accredited course, so there are no formal ‘competency’ requirements. However, your assignments will be marked by our assessor and you’ll receive feedback on your submissions.
Course fee per participant: $145 (inc. GST)
Although the course can be undertaken on its own, the knowledge you gain will be enhanced if you combine it with the Wood technology short course, which provides a more detailed coverage of wood properties, characteristics and grading principles. You may also wish to consider the other non-accredited courses available in this series.
Course fee per participant for ‘Timber product knowledge’ plus:
One additional short course: $245 (inc. GST)
Two additional short courses: $325 (inc. GST)
Three additional short courses: $385 (inc. GST)
