Wood technology

Wood technology is an on-line short course for timber industry personnel who want to improve their background knowledge in wood properties, differences between softwoods and hardwoods, timber growth characteristics and defects, seasoning, destroyers of timber (fungi, termites and borers), structural grades and Australian Standards.

The assessment activity for this course is an on-line multiple choice test comprising 80 questions. The questions are drawn from the learning materials in the following sections of Building Learning website:

Section 1: Wood in a living tree

Section 2: Wood properties

Section 3: Wood-eating organisms

Section 4: Seasoning of timber

Section 5: Structural timber grading

This is a non-accredited course, so there are no formal ‘competency’ requirements or pass marks. However, the multiple choice test will auto-mark your answers and allow you three attempts to achieve a 100% result. You will also be given feedback on your results.

The course can be undertaken on its own or combined with one or more of the following non-accredited courses, which will enhance your learning and provide a broader context to the topics covered:

Workplace safety and environment
