Set out on the following pages are the definitions of the main terms and abbreviations used by timber workers when processing or grading timber. You’ll find more details on the meanings of these terms in the relevant lesson pages on this website.

Note that references to ‘piece’ in the definitions refer to pieces of solid timber, generally in a square or rectangular cross section.
