Accredited course enrolment

All on-line competency-based courses provided by Building Learning are delivered through the registered training organisation Workspace Training (RTO number 91247). Once you have successfully completed the assessment requirements for each competency you’ve enrolled in, you’ll receive a nationally recognised ‘statement of attainment’ from Workspace Training.

To be eligible for enrolment, you must satisfy the following pre-requisite conditions. If you are unable to meet any of these requirements, you are welcome to enrol in the non-accredited versions of the courses.

Pre-requisite conditions

  1. You must have a USI (unique student identifier). This is a ten digit reference number issued by the Australian Government, and everyone who undertakes nationally accredited training is required to have one. If you’ve completed a qualification or statement of attainment since 2015 you will already have one.

To apply for a USI (or to retrieve the number of your existing USI), go to the government’s USI website and follow the prompts. The whole process only takes a few minutes and there is no charge.

  2. You must be employed in the timber industry or a related industry. There are assessment questions that relate to your own workplace, and you’ll need to carry out on-site inspections or identify examples of particular items or procedures that apply to your own work environment.

  3. You will need to have a workplace supervisor. Your supervisor will be asked to verify that you’re applying the principles covered in the competencies in your day-to-day work, and are performing at the level expected of a ‘competent’ worker.

How you will be trained and assessed

All training and assessment is conducted on-line. You will need to have access to a laptop or desktop computer and be familiar with common keyboard and mouse (or touchscreen) functions. For some of the assessment tasks you will need to take digital photos and upload them through the student portal.

The learning materials and assessment tests are written in plain English and contain many literacy-friendly elements, such as diagrams, photos and video clips. We understand that lots of timber industry workers have lower-level LLN (language, literacy and numeracy) skills, so we have designed these materials accordingly.

If you can fill in the enrolment form without the need for assistance, you will have the LLN skills required to complete the course successfully.
